OBOD

The Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids is a worldwide group dedicated to practising, teaching, and developing Druidry as a valuable and inspiring spirituality.

The Order was founded in Britain almost 50 years ago by the historian and poet Ross Nichols, aided by the writer and founder of the Tolkien Society Vera Chapman, and fellow members of the Ancient Druid Order, which developed during the early years of the last century out of the Druid Revival which began about three hundred years ago.

The Order is essentially a Mystery School, and the term ‘order’ is derived from the tradition of magical orders rather than from the tradition of religious orders. Neither the Order nor Druidry is a cult. A cult revolves around a personality, a charismatic leader, or a particular deity or saint. The Order and Druidry have none of these characteristics. A Huge Thank You!

A huge ‘Thank You! ’ to everyone who helped to make our 50th anniversary celebrations in Glastonbury (all four days of it!) such an outstanding success. Everyone was amazing, and if you were there, what you experienced was an example of an incredible amount of team-work – “from the teams who organised tickets, security, the music, the buffet, the fringe events, the rituals, and so on. And some individual heroism too – from Hawkie who made litres of Nuinn’s Dragonsbreath Meaad for 400 thirsty druids, for example!

Still reeling from it and you can read blog accounts from others here: http://setantii.wordpress.com/

Damh has already started to put up recordings in our podcast DruidCast, and Kevin Redpath is making a film of it, though that will take a while to be edited.

And news that over 500 trees will be planted to celebrate the anniversary here (for only £5 you can add another tree!)

From the Blogosphere

From Damh the Bard's blog. A post on the reported litter left at Stonehenge after this year's Solstice celebrations:

Litter at the 'S' Word

Ok. I’m going to step up to the breach and write about the S word. The S word being Stonehenge.

Since the exclusion zone that was set up during the Thatcher years to prevent people getting to the stones and to hammer the death knell into the memory that was the Stonehenge Free Festival this world heritage site has been the topic of arguments, flame wars, political posturing, and also a lot of really positive spiritual discussion and ritual. But I’ve noticed that you open your mouth to speak your mind about the site with a sense of impending peril.

Why am I writing about Stonehenge? After the Solstice, for the first time that I can remember, the focus of some newspaper reports was on the litter left behind. This resulted in me receiving a number of Facebook PMs and emails outraged at the ‘Pagans’ and particularly the ‘Druids’ leaving behind such a huge amount of litter at such an important ancient site. I get the outrage, but I think the anger is a little misdirected. The Summer Solstice celebrations at Stonehenge attract a vast range of people – from Druids and other Pagans, to partiers out for a ggood night, to people stopping off on their way to Glastonbury Festival. We just don’t really know what percentage of the people attending are...

The latest blog post from Damh the Bard,

Tales from the Road – Pagan Spirit Gathering part 1

I first made the journey to the Pagan Spirit Gathering in 2010 when it was held in Camp Zoe, Missouri. Missouri was beautiful, but man, the heat! Now many of you will know I’m a sun worshipper, but I’m not a fan of heat plus high humidity. I remember back in 2010 going to the morning meeting under a huge tree and Selena Fox telling us that the next day would be 90 degrees with 100% humidity. As I walked back to our place of residence I thought to myself, 100% humidity – that’s just water right? So I was fully prepared to open the door the following morning and simply drown. Well, I obviously didn’t, but that week was the hottest and most uncomfortable heat I have ever experienced.

But…

Y Mabinogi – The First Branch has given fruit
Damh the Bard, 26 Sep 01:07 PM

Great news:

First considered 22 years ago. Started April 2016, and the finished CDs arrived just 30 minutes ago. I am one happy Bard. To hold the finished album in my hands, with Cerri’s amazing artwork which has just brought the whole thing together. Well, it’s emotional.

If you pre-ordered the CD from my site you should have received an email this morning with a link to a download of the album so you can listen to it while the CD makes its way to you. If you get the album now you’ll also get that download included. This has been my biggest launch ever, and I have literally hundreds of CDs to pack up and post out, so be patient with me, they will be on their way to you all very soon.

The album also went on sale at midnight on iTunes and as it’s a double album they are asking £15.99 for the download. I don’t set the prices on iTunes or Amazon and I get why they’ve done that – there are a lot of tracks. If you buy the CD from my store it’s £15 plus postage and you get the download too, so it’s a good deal.

So the First Branch is done. In a minute I’m going to take off the Rhiannon pendant Cerri made me for this Journey and place it on my altar. I’ll thank Rhiannon, Pwyll, Arawn, and all of the others from the First Branch for their guidance and gift of Awen. I will ask Pryderi to stay with me and then open to Bran, Branwen, and the energy of the Second Branch, to fill me, be with me, guide me, as I look towards Harlech, and to Ireland for an altogether darker and bloodier tale.

The corvids are circling, it’s time.

I hope you all enjoy the First Branch as much as me and Cerri have enjoyed creating it.
