LEONARDO DI VINCI PEACE STUDY DAY
Call for Papers and Presentations

On May 2nd 2018, which is the 499th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci’s death, IIPSGP will be holding an international peace study day at the European Peace Museum in Central France.
We therefore issue this circular for scholars, artists, scientists, writers, polymaths and renaissance geniuses to come and give a presentation on any aspect of Leonardo Di Vinci’s life and work.
We can delve a little into the mysterious claim that Da Vinci was an initiate of a certain European Esoteric tradition who were seeking to reconcile the best of classical Paganism with illuminated Christianity.
It was this precise mix surely which was the hallmark of the European Renaissance at whose hub, like a beneficent spider, sat Leonardo.

On the following day, May 3rd we shall go on pilgrimage to Leonardo’s burial place in the grounds of Chateaux Amboise: he is buried in the Chapel of St Hubert, under the paving stones of the North Transept.
We shall also visit the museum in the Manor House Le Clos-Luce where Leonardo Da Vinci lived and worked from 1516 and where he died in 1519. Here they have models of all his ingenious inventions.

We shall also explore the friendship between Leonardo and King Francis the 1st of France who invited him to come and live here and who, with support from his sister Margaret of Angoulême, brought the Renaissance to France.
Of Da Vinci, Francis 1 said the following; “Leonardo was not just an artist he was a philosopher and sage for all times. ” This is precisely the aspect of Leonardo’s work we hope to explore.
It is precisely upon Polymathy that the hope of Europe and world peace depends. However across Europe and especially in the United Kingdom, students are being blocked from pursuing trans-disciplinary studies.
It is for this reason that IIPSGP brought the Global Green University into being and also has proposed a Gifted And Talented track be developed in higher education worldwide.

We hope very much that the Leonardo Da Vinci study day can signal the coming together of wits to tackle head on the sophiaphobia that is threatening our country, our continent and our world.

You might ask: but surely Leonardo designed weapons for war, he was hardly a man of peace? This is precisely the problem we must solve. There is still no career path available for
scientists, engineers and technologists as lucrative as working for the military and military intelligence. Philosophers for Peace and Scientists for Peace and Global Responsibility have long campaigned for this.
if Leonardo were alive today he would want surely scientists. artists, philosophers and academics to be able to use their genius for peace rather than war. Europe has known too many wars already.
Can we not now build lasting peace?

TOPICS TO BE COVERED AT THIS STUDY DAY
•Where was Leonardo da Vinci educated and why did he not feel the need for a University education?
•Why has Leonardo’s name become associated with secret knowledge and esoteric societies?
•Is there any actual evidence that Leonardo was in a lineage of esoteric masters?
•Leonardo’s role, in fiction – what novels, films and TV series take Leonardo as their hero?
•What were Leonardo’s links to France and why did he come here?
•What was his relationship to King Francis 1st?
•What about Leonardo’s sexuality – did he have love affairs or wisdom affairs? Was he gay or straight?
•What was Leonardo’s attitude to the Church? What he a Universal meta-Catholic Christian?
•Is there any evidence that Leonardo had studied the Qabalah and other esoteric wisdom teachings?
•Leonardo had one of the largest collections of Islamic scientific books in a private library in Europe – why? How did he come by these books? Was he in contact with Sufism?
•Who has catalogued the entire library of Leonardo da Vinci and where is it now? What happened to it?
•The Codex Leicester of Leonardo shows his scientific mind at work – what was his actual philosophical approach to science? How advanced was his thinking for the times?
•Leonardo is known as the “Renaissance man” par example – what has happened to that ideal?
•What was Leonardo’s relationship to the Medicis of Florence?
•What study societies exist around the world devoted to Leonard Da Vinci’s legacy? What are they doing?
•Italy in Leonard’s day was a strange patchwork of warring states, and Leonardo worked for most of them at some point (Florence, Rome, Venice, Milan) and he helped them with military engineering projects –
did he not think about peace engineering instead?
•Leonardo lived from 1452-1519 – in his lifetime Byzantium fell to Islam, the printing press became popular, the Americas were (re)discovered, and Protestantism began – can we explain his genius by reference ot the Zeiteist of the wider currents sweeping across Europe? What did Leonardo make of all these changes? What kind of future did he see?
•With so many other things to do, why did painting remain so important to Leonardo to the end?
•How important was water and hydraulics to Leonard’s work?
•Was Leonardo actually secretly a pagan who revered the European classical tradition and looked to the old Gods for guidance and inspiration? What do we truly know about his religious views?
•Who were Da Vinci’s real parents? How come was he born illiterate and yet suffered nothing from it?
•Da Vinci was a polymath and a genius – but why are our schools now dumbing down kids to the lowest common levels? Has the Gifted & Talented programme in schools worked? Where will our next generation of geniuses come from if education is so boring and technocratic and anti-spiritual it just numbs the soul?
•Can Europe create a Gifted and Talented programme in the University sector to spot the high-flyers who like to explore interdisciplinary frontiers? Could we call it the Da Vinci Programme?
•The European Union ran a Leonardo da Vinci programme from 1995 – 2013 to facilitate education and life-long learning across Europe – what did actually achieve?
