From the Wild Hunt:
Opinion: Devotees of Santa Muerta confronted by Christian preacher
By Jaime Gironés | September 4, 2020
We had a peculiar visit in Mexico City last month, although probably the most accurate word would be 'invader'. Phillip Blair, evangelical Christian preacher and leader of Torch of Christ Ministries, came to preach at a famous altar dedicated to Santa Muerte.
The altar is located in Tepito, a neighborhood in the center of Mexico City and known for being one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city. The altar was created and is guarded by Enriqueta Romero ("Doña Queta"). Known as the guardian of Santa Muerte, Doña Queta was the first person to make her devotion to Santa Muerte public when, on October 31, 2001, she set up her altar outside her property on Calle de Alfarería. Since then, the altar has become a popular temple where hundreds of devotees gather to worship Santa Muerte.
